These models aren’t suitable for every site. Choose Duplex 340 and 420 floor scrubbers for non-slip flooring, carpet tiles, and ceramic tiles to get the most out of the machine.
Tennant Walk-Behind and Ride-On Floor Scrubbers
Tennant walk-behind and ride-on floor scrubbers are the Rolls-Royce of the range. They feature heavy steel frames and smart engineering that deliver a long service life. With proper care, their premium price is well justified.
Models We Rate
Legacy models like the Tennant T2, T7, andT12 are built to work. We still see 20-year-old units cleaning effectively with regular six or twelve-month servicing.
Buyer Note
Tennant scrubbers are best for high-use sites that demand uptime and reliability. Their upfront cost is higher, but it pays off over the life of the machine.
Hako B40 Floor Scrubbers
We don’t sell Hako floor scrubbers or have any affiliation, but the Hako B40 deserves a mention. It’s a proven workhorse and one of the more reliable units on the market.
What Typically Wears
Consumables wear as expected, and vacuum motors can tire under heavy use. However, with regular care, Hako B40 floor scrubbers remain solid and simple to maintain.
Buyer Note
If you already own a Hako B40, stick to basic maintenance. With consistent care, these machines can stay out of the workshop for long periods.
Nilfisk Commercial Floor Scrubbers
Nilfisk commercial floor scrubbers balance performance, parts availability, and value. They’re backed by strong parts support and a broad product range.
Where They Fit Best
Nilfisk units suit hospitals, aged care facilities, schools, and general commercial sites. They offer dependable performance without the premium price tag. While they use more plastic than Tennant, they remain tough and trustworthy.

Choose Nilfisk if you want reliable results and easy access to parts without paying for an industrial-grade build.
The Other End of the List: Kärcher Floor Scrubbers
Kärcher floor scrubbers often top our service list. Their pressure washers are outstanding, but the scrubbers can be less reliable.
What We See
We commonly find electrical faults, control board issues, and excessive use of plastic parts. The low purchase price can be tempting, but ongoing maintenance costs often add up.
Buyer Note
If you own a Kärcher floor scrubber, stay on top of your maintenance schedule. Keep spare parts handy and plan preventive checks to reduce downtime. We’re always here to help if needed.
Servicing Is What Separates These Brands
Every machine above will run well for years on the right service interval. Most of the failures we attend are not brand problems, they are schedule problems.
Six monthly servicing suits normal commercial use. Three monthly suits heavy use, multiple shifts, or abrasive sites like workshops and food production. The machines we see fail early are almost always on neither schedule.
Three habits do more for machine life than the badge on the front:
- Empty and rinse the recovery tank at the end of every shift. A tank left full overnight is the source of most of the smell complaints we get, and a fair share of the pump problems.
- Charge at the end of the shift, not when it dies. Deep cycling kills batteries faster than heavy use does, and batteries are the single most expensive consumable on a scrubber.
- Replace squeegee blades before they are gone. A worn squeegee leaves a wet trail, the operator slows down to compensate, and the load moves somewhere more expensive.

Buying New, or Trying First
If you are replacing a machine that has not coped, the honest first step is to work out whether it was the wrong machine or the wrong schedule. We can usually tell from the wear pattern.
If you are buying for a new site, hire the shortlist for a fortnight and run them on your actual floor. Two weeks of real use tells you more than any comparison table, including the one at the top of this page.

- Match the floor: Duplex 340 and 420 suit textured or non-slip floors. Tennant’s walk-behind and ride-on range covers most surface types.
- Match the duty cycle: Heavy daily use suits heavy-built machines like Duplex and Tennant. Light or medium use fits mid-range options like Nilfisk.
- Think long-term: Look at consumables, spare parts, downtime, and service support, not just the purchase price.
- Plan maintenance: Six or twelve-month services will keep Duplex, Tennant, and Nilfisk floor scrubbers performing at their best.
