Can You Hire a Floor Scrubber at Bunnings in Brisbane?

Yes. Bunnings hires a small consumer floor scrubber from its tool hire counter, listed at about $44 for 24 hours, in-store only and at selected stores. For a home tile floor or a single small room, that’s a fair option. For a warehouse, a shop floor, a school or anything over a few hundred square metres, it’s the wrong tool, and the reason is size, not price.

We hire commercial scrubbers across Brisbane and South East Queensland, so we have an interest here. We’ll be straight about where the hardware-store machine wins.

Comparison graphic: hardware-store hire is about $44 with no delivery or training, commercial hire is $80 to $400 a day with delivery, training and support
A hardware-store hire is about $44 for 24 hours with no delivery, training or support. A commercial hire runs $80 to $400 a day and includes all three.

What you get from a hardware-store hire

A compact machine built for domestic tiles and grout, collected from the store, returned by you within 24 hours. No delivery, no training, no one to call if it stops. That’s fine for the job it’s built for: a home, a small unit, a bathroom renovation clean-up.

What it isn’t built for is a commercial floor. The cleaning path is narrow, the tank is small, and the machine is designed to be carried in a car boot. On a 500 square metre floor you’ll spend the day refilling it. Operators who’ve tried consumer gear on a commercial job tell us the same three things: it doesn’t pick up the dust, it clogs on anything wet, and the plastic parts don’t survive the week.

    What a commercial hire includes

A commercial floor scrubber hire is a machine sized to your floor, delivered, set up and supported. From our floor scrubber hire in Brisbane:

    • Delivery and pickup across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay and Toowoomba, often same day on in-stock machines.
    • Operator training on site, about 30 minutes for a walk-behind and one to two hours for a ride-on.
    • Breakdown support for the length of the hire. If a machine fails through normal use, we repair or swap it.
    • A machine that matches the floor. Compact walk-behind, mid-size walk-behind or ride-on, chosen for your area, aisle width and floor type.
    • Flexible terms. Minimum hire is one day, with weekend, weekly and monthly rates, and no lock-in on short-term hire.

The machines come off the same vans our technicians service from, cleaned and tested before every hire. Full terms are on the hire conditions page.

What does it cost to hire a floor scrubber in Brisbane?

As a guide from our current rates, a compact walk-behind runs $80 to $120 a day, a mid-size walk-behind $120 to $180, and a ride-on scrubber $200 to $400. Weekly and monthly rates work out lower per day, and monthly hires include scheduled maintenance visits.

    Bar chart of floor scrubber hire day rates: consumer machine $44, compact walk-behind $80 to $120, mid-size $120 to $180, ride-on $200 to $400
Day rates: consumer machine about $44, compact walk-behind $80 to $120, mid-size walk-behind $120 to $180, ride-on scrubber $200 to $400. Weekly and monthly rates are lower per day.

So the commercial machine costs two to ten times the hardware-store day rate. The comparison that matters is per square metre cleaned, and that flips fast. A ride-on covers a warehouse floor in the time a consumer machine covers the loading bay, and it comes with someone to fix it. The full rate table by machine size is in hire or buy a floor scrubber in Brisbane.

When the hardware-store machine is the right call

    • A home, a small unit, or a single room after a renovation.
    • A one-off tile and grout clean under about 100 square metres.
    • A job you can do yourself in a day, with the machine collected in a car.

If that’s your job, hire the consumer machine and save the money. We’d tell you the same on the phone.

When you need a commercial hire

    • Any commercial floor. Warehouses, retail, hospitality, schools, healthcare, gyms, car parks.
    • Anything over a few hundred square metres. The consumer machine’s tank and path make it a full-day job and the result is patchy.
    • Textured, non-slip or grouted commercial floors. These need a cylindrical brush machine, which the hire counter doesn’t carry.
    • Post-construction cleanup. Fine dust and plaster residue want a real tank and a sweep pass first.
    • Anything where a breakdown costs you. Events, handovers, inspections. You want someone answering the phone.
    • A machine your staff will run. Training is included, and it’s the difference between a clean floor and a wet one.
Two-column graphic: hire commercial for any commercial floor over a few hundred square metres; the hardware store is fine for a home or one room under about 100 square metres

What about the national hire chains?

The equipment-hire chains sit between the hardware store and a specialist. They carry commercial scrubbers and deliver, and for a general clean on a plain floor they’re a reasonable option. Where a specialist earns the difference is the machine choice and the support: a technician who services these machines every day picks the right one for your floor type, trains your operator on it, and fixes it on site if it stops. If the machine is a means to a clean floor rather than the point, that matters more than the logo on the trailer.

Hire first if you’re thinking of buying

The best use of a hire is often a trial. Hire the machine you’re considering for a fortnight, run it on your own floor with your own staff, and count how often you reach for it. Two weeks of real data beats any brochure, including ours. Many of our Brisbane customers hire first, then buy with confidence, and long hires can move to lease-to-own.
